Since I'm adding pictures, I thought I'd put one of my daughter on here. It's not that I don't take pictures of her, it's that she's always in school so there is less opportunity. Here she's hanging out with a friend. Posted by Picasa

Here's another shot with the new camera, not to many pictures of me on here so I thought I'd throw this one in.  Posted by Picasa

My sister-n-law got a new camera and she took some great pictures of my son! Posted by Picasa

ER bound!

My youngest son is 17 months old going on invincible. He climbs up things, out of things, onto things. All of these things are tall, narrow or typically off limits for toddlers of his age, but nothing stops him. I don't know if it's having older siblings or if it's just his nature, but this one's bound to make a trip to the ER for broken bones at some point in his life, probably sooner than later. He fell on his brothers train table two days ago. His latest bruise narrowly missed his eyeball and is leaving him with one heck of a shiner and yet he goes back for more. Just today he's standing on his tippy toes on the bar of a chair with his chin on top of the table, just barely holding on so that he can reach a toy in the middle of the table. They say boys will be boys, let's just hope this boy makes it to his 10th birthday!

WARNING!! T.V. Might Be Harmful To Your Health

So last night I was flipping through channels watching absolutely nothing on t.v., because nothing is on, it's summer and I have what some people call "Country Cable", which is to say I pay more for my Tivo than I do for my cable and get very few channels. The only reason we got cable is because our bunny ears stopped getting ABC and we couldn't watch our shows, so we had to break down and get cable. Well anyway, I was flipping and watching a couple shows at a time when I came upon Being Bobby Brown. I thought he was in jail or something, and I certainly thought that he and Whitney Houston were over. Much to my surprise, though, they are very much together and he is not in jail, he has his own reality show. It's sort of like the Ozzbornes in that it just follows them around a bit. I really believe that I lost actual brain cells during the few moments I watched. I didn't sit down and watch the whole show you see I am a flipper, I pride myself on the ability to watch three, sometimes four shows at a time, so I did not see this in its entirety. The few times I flipped back to it though, it was Bobby or Whitney talking about crap, and I mean that in the literal sense. It showed them at restaurants, meetings, in studios, all of these fine upstanding places and they were farting and talking about taking a dump. The saddest part of it all was the scenes when their daughter was in it. Here's Whitney Houston, the has been diva blaming one her farts on her daughter, much to her daughters mortified embarassment. It was awful and I just couldn't stop thinking about it last night. What has the world come to that we are watching drug addicts that beat up on one another and crap their pants in public places and call that entertainment. It almost makes me want to get rid of my cable all together.

Got Corn??

As sad as this may be my youngest son just had his first ear of corn the other night for dinner. I don't know if it is because he's trying to get a new tooth or if it was so darn good he didn't want to let go, but it made for a great picture.

First Day Of School!!

Sorry it has taken so long to document this glorious day, but I've been so busy getting back into the swing of things. My daughter started her first day of fourth grade Monday and we've been moving and grooving ever since. My middle child starts three days a week pre-school in two weeks and then maybe we will slow back into the routine of running children everywhere. My daughter is not nearly as excited about starting school as she used to be, but then again only two of her friends are in her class this year and it's like starting over, she doesn't know anyone. Her boyfriend" is also not in her class, which is causing a major uproar in the fourth grade frenzy of boyfriends and girlfriends. I'm confident that she will get back in the social circle soon, though. I asked her why it even mattered if she had a boyfriend, it's not like she can go on dates or anything. And her reply was priceless, she said, "Yeah, we can't even kiss or hold hands in fourth grade", good to know she's learning something.

Cheesecake...

So once a year my husband gets his beloved birthday cheesecake. This just happened to be last week and once again I made the cheesecake. It all started like 7 or 8 years ago when we were dating, I made this cheesecake for him for his birthday, and he loved it and said that's all he ever wanted for his birthday for the rest of his life. Now I can cook, it's my thing, I grew up with a wonderful mother that can cook anything so it just comes naturally. And since that fated day years ago, I have made several really good cheesecakes, but this chocolate swirled one is the cheesecake of choice. I don't know if it is because I make them once a year or if maybe I just really don't love cheesecake, but it's getting to the point that I don't even like the stinkn' cheesecake. So I slave over this thing once a year and have one piece and if the kids are lucky, they get one piece, but that's it he doesn't share with anyone else. In fact next year I'm not even sure he'll let me invite his parents, because that's two less pieces of cheesecake for him. I guess it's his party and he can share his cake if he wants to...or maybe have his cake and eat it too...oh whatever Happy Birthday Honey!

Splog

So a friend of mine has been splogged, which up until yesterday I really didn't get what that was. I learned from a friends blog that spam +blog = splog and I was like what??, but now I know. She got some crazy comment from some total stranger that was kind of like an advertisement but weirder. Maybe I embarked on a too big an adventure with this blog. I'm not real technical and I certainly don't want to deal with spam and viruses and all that junk. Hopefully a solution will be found to help out all us simple folk that are just trying to have a little fun with the web.

72nd Annual Homecoming!

We spent last week at my parents house for Homecoming, which is kind of like a county fair, not football. We had great rides and lots of fun with friends and family. Every night was a late night, and got progressively later, but the kids were troopers and stayed up with the best of them. We had lots of homecoming hamburgers and all the other carnival treats, cotton candy, funnel cakes and carmel apples. It was great fun, but after basically two weeks of being away from home, I'm ready to stay for good. School starts next week and I'm actually welcoming the routine again, that and getting my kids away from one another. Summer was fun and I'm sure I'll miss the lazy days after about a month of school, but then we'll have the holidays to look forward to.

Vacation!!

Well we spent last week with my husband's family at the lake. We had a really nice place right on the water complete with dock and boat. It was a great time and the boat rides were fun, for those who enjoy the risk of water and huge oceanliners in your path. It was fun though to be with family and just kind of hang out.

Recipes

Okay so I'm going to start sharing a recipe of the month, since I love to cook. If anyone would like to share a recipe with me, please feel free to send it my way. Since it's hot and people don't like heating up thier kitchen, I'm sending one of my favorite grilling recipes. My sister actually gave this one to me, so enjoy and fix it for company, it's awsome.

Grilled Flank Steak
3 C. dry red wine
3 C. chopped onions
2 1/4 C. soy sauce
3/4 C. olive oil
8 large garlic cloves, chopped
1 Tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1 Tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
4 1/2 lb. Flank Steak
6 large bell peppers (red, yellow, orange, green) cut into 3/4 inch strips
3 large red onions cut into 1/2 inch slices

Combine first 7 ingredients in large bowl. Divide steak, bell peppers, and red onion among large shallow pans. Pour marinade over, turn to coat, cover and refrigerate 3 to 6 hours. Grill over high heat, drain steaks & veggies & grill to desired doneness, about 4 min. per side for rare. Slice steaks thinly across grain.
Serve with grilled rolls.
Grilled French Bread: 3/4 C. olive oil, 6 garlic cloves flattened, 18 french bread rolls. Heat oil, add garlic & cook until light brown. Discard garlic, brush rolls, sprinkle with pepper & grill.

Summer!!

Isn't it sad when it's the middle of July, but it feels like summer is already over. We've been so busy and had so much going on that it feels like we've missed summer. We are going on a little vacation next week and then that is it, two weeks later school starts and its all over, the swimming, sleeping in, pancakes for breakfast every morning.
What have we done with our summer you ask, well lots of swimming, some traveling, but mostly just hanging out. That's what summer is all about I guess, but it seems like it's over before it starts. I'm sure we will welcome the routine of school, but there are those that this school year will be monumental. My sister for one has a senior this year, this is the last summer for her, then I'm sure like her mother, my niece will be off to college and never to return. My brother has a senior as well. What do we do with all this time moving stuff....can't it just stand still for a while. This will be my middle childs last year of preschool and then he's off to kindergarten. Wasn't he just born yesterday. Before you know it my oldest will be a senior and my youngest will start school and what will I do with myself. I guess I'll have to find a job to occupy my time, although the older my sister's kids get the busier she seems to get, so maybe I'll save the job thing for retirement.

Chicago, Chicago, Chicago!!!
Originally uploaded by llear.
I LOVE THE CITY!!! We went to Chicago for a few days to visit the American Girl Place. It was just a girls trip with my daughter and I, a friend and her mom, and my mother-in-law. We all had a great time, and it was a dream come true for the girls. The people at American Girl Place now how to make girls happy and that was apparent by the line outside the door to get in every morning.

The girls really enjoyed shopping and having lunch at the American Girl Place, but I think the theatre performance might have been the coolest part....aside from getting all the new doll stuff that is.

Enjoying the 4th of July with family!

4th of July!*!*

We celebrated the fourth with family and friends this weekend. Fun was had by all...good food, good drinks, games and of course fireworks. On Sunday we were with family and had a blast fishing and riding the golf cart and mule. The food of course was the main event and visiting with good company.

Boys and their toys!!

You know the old saying, "the bigger the boy, the bigger his toys", well that rang true for us this weekend. After almost two years of riding other people's motorcycles, my husband finally got his Harley. Many questions have been asked of me since his purchase, like "aren't you mad?", "how could you let him get one?", or "are you worried he'll wreck it?"... Well after having a full weekend of ownership and having gone for a ride myself, I have had some time to ponder these questions. Why am I not mad, I just let him fulfill a hobby that not only has its dangers, but also gives him another reason for being away from home. I'm not mad, though, in fact I think he deserves it. He works hard and provides well for our family. He is a great father and role model. Having a Harley isn't going to change any of those things. As for "letting" him, well he is six feet tall, I don't think I could stop him if I tried. And the worry part, well I have faith in the Lord and whether it's riding the Harley or driving around in the old Lincoln, if it's his time to go, nothing is going to change that. Have a little faith in the Lord, it will make life easier.

I have always regretted I am not as wise as the day I was born.
